Draft Strategic Vision Open for Community Consultation

Earlier this year, the Open Education Conference launched a strategic planning process to chart a vision for its future as a community-owned event. The goal of this process is to develop the foundations for a sustainable, community-led governance structure to assume leadership of the conference beyond 2021. As the first major output of this process, the OpenEd Strategic Planning Committee is pleased to share a draft Strategic Vision for community consultation.

Between now and Friday September 3rd, you are invited to participate in the community consultation process for the Open Education Conference draft Strategic Vision. Intentionally short and concise, this document establishes the Open Education Conference’s vision, mission, values, and approach to the work, which will serve as the foundation for future community governance. We want to know what you think!

Who is invited to Participate?

Everyone, everywhere! All members of the broader open education community and general public across the globe are invited to weigh in. Your participation will help create a conference that is truly community-owned, so please feel welcome and encouraged to participate, no matter what parts of the community you represent. Participation is subject to the Code of Conduct.

How can Feedback be submitted?

The draft Strategic Vision is available on the Open Education Conference’s website. You have three options for adding feedback to the text directly:

In addition to welcoming written comments, the committee will also offer four live consultation sessions scheduled to accommodate various time zones. Join these sessions to discuss the draft Strategic Vision live with other community members. Click the links below to RSVP:

What kind of feedback is most helpful?

The committee’s goal is to develop a Strategic Vision that clearly and accurately captures the shared values of the open education community. Some questions to consider while reading are:

  • Is the document written in a clear and concise way?

  • Does the document accurately capture the values and goals of the open education community?

  • Are there any important themes missing or underemphasized?

How will feedback be used?

The OpenEd Strategic Planning Committee will review all submitted feedback and take it under consideration when developing the final version. Upon formal completion, the Strategic Vision will be made publicly available. The committee looks forward to inviting further feedback about the conference’s proposed governance and organizational structure later this fall.
