Save the Date: OpenEd26 is October 27-29

The Open Education Conference is going back virtual! The 2026 Open Education Conference (OpenEd26) will be held on October 27-29, 2026 as a fully virtual event with attendance welcomed from across the globe. As the conference’s 23rd annual gathering, OpenEd26 will continue to foster collaboration and innovation, in a fully online setting. But don’t worry—we plan to be back as a hybrid event in 2027.

Returning to the virtual format of the conference will open doors for more attendees to take part in next year’s event. Going virtual allows the conference to broaden participation across the globe and incorporate more diverse voices into the conference’s programming. Understanding that many conference attendees are experiencing limited travel budgets and abilities, this move to virtual helps level the playing field for all who want to participate.

🎉  What: 2026 Open Education Conference

📅  When: October 27-29, 2026

🌐  How: Online, around the world 🌍

Next year also marks an important transition in the conference’s administration. Earlier this year, the Conference Board decided to house the event under the newly formed Open Education Association. This move is an exciting and natural evolution for the conference and will provide a long-term, sustainable home while maintaining the same values and vision for open education. The conference team that currently organizes the conference for SPARC will remain in place for 2026 to ensure a seamless transition while continuing to meet the high expectations the community has grown to expect.

A call for proposals will be released early in the new year, along with more event details. Help spread the word and sign up for updates to stay informed!

The Open Education Conference is an annual convening for sharing and learning about open educational resources, open pedagogy, and open education initiatives. Each year, it draws more than 1500 educators, librarians, students, and other professionals to exchange the latest ideas, best practices, and research in the growing open education field. Led by a community-elected board, the conference envisions open education as a catalyst for educational equity, change, and transformation.
