The Open Education Conference is an annual in-person and virtual convening where educators and open education advocates gather to collaborate, support, and drive strategies for education that are accessible, affordable, and reflective of the learners they serve. The 2025 Open Education Conference will be held over three days on October 28-30, 2025 as a hybrid event, with in-person attendance hosted in Denver, CO, USA, and virtual attendance welcomed from across the globe. The in-person venue and official conference hotel is the Hilton Denver City Center (book your room now).
The conference will be set in Mountain Daylight Time (GMT-6:00). The conference will start at around 9:00am MDT each day and run until approximately 4:30pm MDT. The official conference timetable will be released in May.

The conference grows each year, with last year’s event welcoming over 1600 participants from across the globe! Attendees include faculty, librarians, instructional designers, students, administrators, and many more involved in open education practice and advocacy.
At last year’s hybrid event in Providence, RI, USA, over 400 participants attended in person and over 1200 participated online.

The lead author will be notified of our decision on proposals by May 16th.

If a session (of any format) is accepted, the primary contact will be required to register for the conference by the early-bird deadline of August 29th. Please note that every presenter (primary or non-primary) planning to present in-person at the conference will be required to register as an in-person attendee. Virtual presenters who are not the primary contact will not be required to register in order to present virtually or as part of a pre-recorded session. Cost waivers for virtual registration are available by application, especially to students, those located outside of North America, and others for whom cost would be a barrier. Cost waivers are available by application for virtual registration ONLY (students, those located outside of North America, and others for whom cost would be a barrier are especially encouraged to apply.

Registration for this year’s event is now open and will be run through Oxford Abstracts. Register by the earlybird deadline of August 29 to take advantage of the lowest available rates. In-person capacity and hotel accommodations are limited, so early registration is encouraged.

Yes! Scholarship applications are now open. Please note that scholarships are available for virtual conference attendance only.

We prefer that all in-person registrations are made through Oxford Abstracts, our online registration system. You can register up to 20 people per order.
If you have a group of more than 10 virtual registrations and prefer to be invoiced, you may contact us to request one at contact@openeducationconference.org.

Yes, we are happy to help you purchase registrations in advance. Please email us at contact@openeducationconference.org and tell us more about your needs. We are happy to provide an invoice for registration vouchers that can be claimed closer to the conference.
ATTENDING IN-PERSON

The in-person components of OpenEd25 will be held at the Hilton Denver City Center. For attendees flying into Denver, we recommend flying into the Denver International Airport (DEN). Further instructions for in-person travel are available on the Hotel & Travel page.

The official conference venue and hotel is the Hilton Denver City Center. Rooms are now available to book through the conference booking link at a rate of $199 USD/night plus tax. More information is available on the Hotel & Travel page.

This year’s venue is located in downtown Denver with plentiful food options within a short walking distance. Therefore, most meals will be on your own. Registration includes the following:

ATTENDING VIRTUALLY

You will access the conference through the Oxford Abstracts platform. Further instructions will be provided with the attendee guide distributed prior to the conference.

Live sessions will be held in Zoom similar to previous years. Zoom links to join sessions will be available through the program in your Oxford Access account during the week of the conference. Pre-recorded sessions will be available as embedded videos in the conference platform.
