Call for Participation: 2021 OpenEd Conference Planning

The Open Education Conference is calling for members of the education community to participate in our 2021 planning process. This year, the conference organizing team will both be planning #OpenEd21, which will be held virtually in October 2021, and also running a strategic planning process to shape the future of the conference’s governance. All individuals interested in being part of the process are encouraged to complete the interest form.

The Open Education Conference planning process includes a variety of roles including committee members, proposal reviewers, session hosts, and general volunteers. Time commitments vary based on role, and while prior experience with open education and/or event planning is helpful, it is not a requirement.

As a community-led event, the Open Education Conference seeks to center a range of perspectives and voices in our planning process. The conference also recognizes that some identities and contexts are underrepresented and/or marginalized in the open education field and in society as a whole. We are actively encouraging participation from individuals who would bring greater diversity to the conference, including but not limited to those who:

  • Identify as Black, Indigenous, and/or People of Color

  • Identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community

  • Reside in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean, or Pacific Islands

  • Work in a primary, secondary, or K-12 education context

  • Work in a minority-serving institution or program

  • Are people with disabilities

  • Are currently students (all levels)

All interested participants are requested to complete the interest form at their earliest convenience, but no later than March 19th for committee roles and April 30th for proposal reviewers. Responses will be reviewed by the Steering Committee, which will make selection decisions in the event that there are more candidates than positions available.

We also encourage everyone interested in the planning process to attend our upcoming Community Meeting on March 12th, where we’ll provide an update on what’s ahead for the planning process and gather input to shape the year ahead.

To stay up to date on the conference, sign up for our mailing list and follow us on social media at @HeyOpenEd.
