The 2024 Open Education Conference (OpenEd24) will be held on October 8-10, 2024 as a hybrid event, with in-person attendance hosted in Providence, RI, USA, and virtual attendance welcomed from across the globe. As the conference’s 21st annual gathering, OpenEd24 will continue to deliver an engaging virtual event with the option to attend in-person for the first time since 2019—one of many meanings captured in the theme “It’s About Time.”

Key Details

Virtual attendance will continue to be the high quality, community-driven experience that attendees have come to expect from the last four years. The conference will feature virtual programming similar to past conferences, including pre-recorded lightning talks, fully virtual sessions, and virtual networking. All keynotes will be livestreamed, and many in-person sessions will be held in a hybrid format enabling full participation.

Virtual registration rates will not increase this year. Rates will be as follows:

  • US $75 Earlybird Registration

  • US $100 Standard Registration

  • US $25 Student Registration

Scholarships for virtual attendance will be available by application.

Virtual Attendance

The in-person venue will be the Omni Providence in charming downtown Providence, which is known for its outstanding restaurants, vibrant performing arts scene, and beautiful riverwalk—especially in the fall. The room rate will be US $199/night + taxes, with booking available starting in May. The hotel is steps from the Providence Amtrak Station, 10 miles from Providence T. F. Green International Airport (PVD), and 50 miles from Boston Logan International Airport (BOS).

In-person registration rates will be similar to pre-pandemic rates, adjusted for inflation. Rates will be approximately as follows:

  • US $450 Earlybird Registration

  • US $600 Standard Registration

  • US $200 One-Day Registration

  • US $150 Full-Time Student Registration

Space will be limited for in-person registration so make plans to register early! In-person registration includes access to all in-person and virtual sessions.

In-Person Attendance

The Open Education Conference is an annual convening for sharing and learning about open educational resources, open pedagogy, and open education initiatives. This dynamic gathering celebrates the core values of open education that strive to realize education ecosystems that are accessible, affordable, equitable and inclusive to everyone, regardless of their background. Building on its first 16 years as an annual in-person event, the conference was held virtually from 2020-2023. Led by a community-elected board of directors, the conference is preparing for its first hybrid event on October 8-10, 2024.
